June is National Fruit and Vegetable Month intended to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy diet and encourage everyone to eat more fruit and vegetables.
June is National Fruit and Vegetable Month
June isn’t just for Dads, Grads, and Summer Vacation it’s also about National Fruit and Vegetable Month. In honor of that designation, we have gathered lots of resources to help raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating and encourage you to add more fresh fruit and vegetable portions to your diet.
How can I add more fresh fruit & vegetable items to my diet?
Building a healthy plate is what June is all about. Filling half your plate with fruits and vegetables is an excellent way to add color, flavor, vitamins and minerals. Fruit and vegetables can help with overall health in many ways; it can prevent certain diseases like cancer and diabetes, help with obesity & weight control and it can improve your skin, hair, and nails. When you add 2 cups of fruit and 2 ½ cups of vegetables to your daily plate, you are enjoying a packed diet low in calories and fat.
5 Ways to Enjoy More Fruit & Vegetable Servings
1.Mix up a breakfast smoothie made with low-fat milk, frozen strawberries, and a banana.
2.Make a veggie wrap with roasted vegetables and low-fat cheese rolled in a whole-wheat tortilla.
3.Try crunchy vegetables instead of chips with your favorite low-fat salad dressing for dipping.
4.Grill colorful vegetable kabobs packed with tomatoes, green and red peppers, mushrooms & onions.
5.Add color to a salad with baby carrots, grape tomatoes, spinach leaves or mandarin oranges.
