Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day will be held on Thursday, April 26th.

Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day celebrates it’s 25th anniversary this year. This annual event, recognized on the fourth Thursday of April, is an educational program in the United States and Canada which encourages parents to take their children to work with them for one day. Each year more than 37 million Americans, at over 3.5 million workplaces, take part in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day Tips

If you are one of the millions of participants, you will want to know some of the Do’s and Don’ts.

1. Plan the day. Think about what your children will do for the day based on their interests.
2. Seek advice from other parents. Talk to parents who have brought their children to work before to see what went well and didn’t.
3. Talk to your employer and colleagues about the day. Check with your company or organization and see if they have any planned activities for the day.
4. Find out what line of work your children are interested in. Knowing is half the battle. Don’t force them to come to work with you if they don’t want to follow in your footsteps.
5. Invite children other than your own.
6. Lay out the ground rules. Let your children know what is expected of them and consider giving a reward for good behavior.
7. Introduce your daughters and sons to your colleagues. Have your children acknowledge your fellow workers with a greeting of “Hello” and a handshake. Explain what each person does so your children understand each person’s responsibilities.
8. Make it real. Allow your children to see you problem-solve and let them participate in the process.
9. Put yourself in your children’s shoes. Ask your children what they want to see the most and why.
10. Expose your daughters and sons to new things. Each year, show them different aspects of your company or organization.
