Cinco de Mayo celebrated on May 5th
Cinco de Mayo celebrated on May 5th is the remembrance of the unlikely defeat of the French Army by the Mexican Army during the Battle of Puebla in Mexico in 1862. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has become a significant annual celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. Jersey City and Hoboken Cinco de Mayo Celebrations
- Jersey City Cinco de Mayo Food Truck Fest is on May 4th from 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Over 20 Food vendors (including Chavas Empanadas, Mexi-boys, Cubano X-Press) will be in attendance. And live music and entertainment will be enjoyed by all. Admission is $5.00, kids under 12 are free. Food Truck Fest will be held at the Urby Parking Lot (200 Greene Street) in Jersey City.
- The 9th Annual Cinco de Mayo Pub Crawl starts off at Cadillac Cantina in Hoboken on May 5th. Attendees will be able to access multiples bars, while enjoying margaritas, sangrias, and tequila shots! At registration attendees receive wristbands as well as a full guided crawl map that will include all of the best drink specials and venues throughout Hoboken.
- Bar Code in Elizabeth will be hosting Cinco de Bar Code with DJ Camilo and Friends. Bar Code describes their restaurant as “a combination of restaurant, lounge, & innovative sports bar with a Latin twist.” Hoboken, Ramsey, & Carlstadt locations
- Orale Mexican Kitchen in Hoboken and Jersey City has created a special menu for their Cinco de Mayo fiesta. The favorite restaurants have a quirky day of the dead decor and are known for fantastic service, excellent food, & exciting cocktails. View the menu here.
- Liberty Harbor Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Friday, May 3rd from 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm offers up Hot Tacos and Tasty Margaritas. Early Bird Sign Up through May 1st is $5.00 and thereafter cost is $10.00. For more information email rsvp@libertyharbor.com
Essex, Morris and Union County Celebrations
- Don Jose Mexican Restaurants’ (in East Hanover and Netcong) feature festive and colorful decor and makes everyday look like Cinco de Mayo. Their Mexican menu includes jalapeño poppers, taquitos, tamales, and more. Don Jose’s is a BYOB restaurant and a few of their delicious Mexican desserts include flan, fried ice cream, and sweet chimichangas.
- Cinco de Derby with Jersey Club Sports, a provider of co-ed sports leagues and social events in the Morris County Area. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby all in one day at South Street Social in Morristown. Specials include a Make Your Own Taco Bar, $6.00 Mint Juleps, $5.00 Margaritas, $3.00 Coronas as well as all day giveaways.
- Folklore Artisanal Taco’s offers a variety of tacos and specialty beverages at their Cinco de Mayo fiesta. The BYOB restaurant in West Orange is known for great quality food and excellent service.
- Rosalita’s Roadside Cantina in Linden and Clifton offers a child-friendly Cinco de Mayo celebration. Kids will love the bounce houses, obstacle courses, games and giveaways. At night the adults can ride a mechanical bull! Enjoy margaritas, sample tacos truck fare, win prizes, and more.
